    Don't do video games

In my oppinion video games are a serious potential pitfall for anyone who is seeking personal improvement in terms of dating or anything else.

They provide an escape route so you don't have to deal with the problems you are facing in reality, and thus only delay the finding of a solution.

Also they have actual negative physical consequences such as sleep deprivation and bad effect on your physique (muscle atrophy, obesity, etc).

They can cause relationship problems if you are choosing them over your gf.

This is why I've decided that video games are in essence a new form of drugs such as cocaine and heroin... I would never do those drugs because I'm aware of the potential negative consequences, but I think video games caught me off guard. This is why I've gotten rid of all my games except for Xbox kinect which I mostly keep around for when I have guests.

Staying up all night to play Starcraft definitely fucks up your game the next day.

  2. I agree. That's why I'm considering to stay with portable gaming only or games that are not addictive and don't require a lot of time investment.

Video Games aren't bad, per se.

They provide a cheap form of entertainment and allow you to save lots of money for certain things if you are tight on cash.

I love my ps3. It also is my blueray player and source of netflicks for my living room. I bought a whole bunch of games(that I actually don't really play at all alone) for the purpose of playing the whenever I have friends over.

And when you have girls already you are fucking, who the fuck cares if you play some games. As long as you put other things first such as school/gym/work and girls.

I play maybe a few hours a week now, usually one day per week, and it is for either Battlefield 3, or Skyrim.

But I agree for one point: Video Games can make you lazy and distracted. If they do, it is best not to have that in your life.

  4. Anything that is enjoyable is a drug, and can be addictive. Drugs, alcohol, video games, food, sex, gambling, shopping, etc.

This is not just a metaphor, its actually how the brain works. All of these things affect the same area of the brain. They can all ruin your life (or at least make it worse) if you aren't careful.

Uh, dude, there is a little thing called ''moderation''.

If you play games ocasionally that's fine, if you smoke pot ocasionally that's fine. If you play games 15 hours a day then you have a problem, if you smoke pot 15 hours a day you also have a problem.

I do well in school, get laid weekly, have a fuck-buddy and 3 other girls this week I'm seeing and I still play Skyrim for at least an hour a day. Too compare video games to heroin is the stupidest thing I've ever read. Oh and I workout 4times a week.

If a person gets addicted to videogames to the point that they stay up all night to play starcraft; if they get rid of that game or videogames in general it wont be long till they find something else to fill that void. Don't blame videogames if you've got an addictive personality. It's for the same reason that fat people shouldn't blame mcdonalds for being fat.

Philip Zimbardo is legit- I've watched many of his productions on other areas of psychology over the years, in school.

Philip Zimbardo, just from watching the first few minutes of the study, seems like a hack. His strategy was to list of a bunch of normal stats and then pretend like it's a new problem. Lower Grad rates, confusion with love and sexual nervousness have all be around for decades if not centuries.

He comes across as if he's trying to sell a product, I didn't watch the full thing but I'm sure he'll probably promote something haha.
This is a classic case of people blaming things on on external influences because of intrinsic. Disassociation is what this psychologist should have wasted his time talking about.

Zimbardo is hardly a hack, he's a professor emeritus of psychology at Stanford.

Check out the video series at yourbrainonporn.com . It's the same problem- the dopamine system of the brain getting manipulated.

Well I certainly can't argue with his credentials.

That must have just been one of his weaker presentations. I definitely didn't see that as a very scientific approach, just semantics and only telling half the story.

Either way, like all things in life, video games must be handled in moderation. If you're only playing Video-games an hour a day and still not getting laid, then it's not the videogames, bro its you.

I found the OP in general as being weak in both rhetoric and logic. Talking only about extremes.. Video games give you muscle atrophy and make you fat? Nah dawg that's you over-eating and not hitting the gym. The only way Video-games can be related to those things is if all you do is play them all day. In which case, stop, cause you've got an addictive personality.
