I just finished a
bootcamp with
The Don,
Braddock,
Big Business, Helicase and Puzzler. All of these guys were amazing and I hope I can do all of them justice in this review. It was a large class so all of the instructors were brought in to keep the student\instructor ratio down to a minimum.
Each day in the classroom, I wrote furiously to keep up with all of the great information they provided. In addition to the standard class material they each talked about real world experiences that helped put everything into perspective and showed how the material applied.
Every question was answered with ease with real world examples on why or why not something should be done a certain way. Each of them have lived this and they've all been where most of us are today so they can relate. That, and seeing their success first hand helps to know that this can be done.
Since there were so many instructors and we only went out 2 nights, I did not get a chance to work closely with all of them. I probably worked with
Big Business the most, then Puzzler and then
Braddock. Each night we had an agenda or a clear set of goals to reach based on that day's instructions.
Big Business Big Business is an amazing guy to see in action. He took me and a couple other guys the first night to have us open sets. The first set he wanted me to open was a mixed 5 set at the bar. He said, "See that girl at the bar in the pink sweater? Go open her." I hesitate because now that the pressure is on, I'm trying to recall my opener and everything I was supposed to do. I walked over to the bar....and chicken out. I walk back to
Big Business and he asked, "What happened?" I said, "Well, she's leading the conversation with the group." He said, "Here, watch" and walks over to the bar, leans against it like he's checking his phone for messages, bumps her arm and says something to her. She stops talking and looks over. Instead of being irritated for being interrupted he has her and her girlfriend on the other side laughing within seconds. He then excused himself and walked back. It was that easy.
The next set he had me open was a two-set. I opened this one and talked to both girls. In fact, my opener intrigued them enough that they called a third girlfriend over. So I'm talking to these girls for several minutes (forgetting a few things on my agenda in the process, of course) when
Big Business comes in to wing me. I'm sure he was just surprised to see me in the set for so long and wanted to know what was going on.

I introduced him, identified the target and the obstacle and he went to town. He pulled the obstacle aside and had her laughing within seconds. The target turned to interrupt him at one point and he "shushed" her without breaking stride. The look on her face was hilarious. I don't think that had ever happened to her in her life! She loved it though. After a few minutes he said his goodbyes and walked away. The obstacle watched him go and said without taking her eyes off of him, "Who was that guy? Was he a friend of yours? He's funny!" It reminded of the old Lone Ranger episodes after the Lone Ranger swoops in to save the day and the women breathlessly ask "Who was that masked man???" as he rides away.
I left the set after a few more minutes and walked back to him. He immediately congratulated me for staying in the set for so long. He said he was really impressed. He immediately asked what I thought I did right, what I thought I did wrong and what I thought I could have done better. He then told me his observations, which were mostly positive and gave suggestions for the next one.
The third set he had me go into was one that had been opened by another student. The student was talking to a two-set and so he wanted me to wing him. So I went in and the student wasn't expecting me and was a little surprised. He failed to identify the target & obstacle and so I was left standing there. That's when the funniest thing happened. If you think of an "L", the student was standing at the bottom right, one girl was at the bottom left and the 2nd girl was at the top left. I was standing under the "L" talking. That's when
Big Business noticed I was out of position, swooped in and physically moved me from where I was standing, around the one girl to facing the 2nd girl at the top left. The funny thing is, it barely registered with her. She just kind of blinked and kept on talking to me like nothing happened. It was hilarious!!!
The second night I was having major approach anxiety for some reason.
Big Business, Puzzler,
Braddock and
The Don all helped and I spent most of my time one-on-one with Puzzler and
Big Business.
Big Business talked to me, realized I was having a tough time of it and said, "Why don't you just walk around the club and I'll follow. If you see any sets you want to try then open them. I'll hang back for a few minutes and then come in and wing you." That alone took the pressure off and I started opening sets. After each one he would pull me aside and ask how I thought I did and congratulate me and offer suggestions where needed. He was a HUGE help.
On the 2nd night I also got to see him interact with a girl he had met the first night. That alone was an eye opener. He talked so much BS that I don't think she knew which way was up but she was eating it up! He introduced me as a friend of his and she asked how we met. He immediately concocted a story about how we were "long lost brothers from a different mother." She knew it was BS but she loved it. She didn't really care because she was having such a great time. He was hilarious! The goal is to keep the girl laughing and entertained. I saw how it worked first hand. It's great! ...or as
Big Business would say, "It's money!"
Puzzler
If you want to work with someone that knows how to peacock then Puzzler's your man. With his white jacket and fancy/shiny boots he had girls coming up and opening him! He's been doing this for a few years now and definitely knows his stuff. He helped me out a lot the first and second night and helped me with some of my
sticking points on the opener and transition. He also went around with me that second night when I had my approach anxiety and encouraged me to open sets and offered great feedback each time. He’s always full of great advice.
Braddock Braddock is pretty amazing himself. You can tell this guy is at the top of his game by how quickly he thinks on his feet and all of the great advice. The first day he led a lot of the class and provided great advice and real world experience. The first night he helped me work through my opener and the second night he completely changed it on the fly to something a little more high energy after he and
The Don realized my approach anxiety. He worked through it and came up with a completely new opener along with the responses within a few seconds. He loves role playing scenarios and is great at the text message game.
The Don The Don led the class and for good reason. You can tell he's been doing this a long time and knows this stuff inside and out. I didn't work with him a lot in the field but he was always there with advice if I needed it. He has a great presence that even the women sensed. They were approaching him the first night and an HB10 even picked him up the 2nd night on his way out of the club.
Helicase
I probably worked with Helicase the least but I did see him in action with a two set the 2nd night. He had talked to them earlier in the evening and they came back to engage him in conversation. Again, as with all of the instructors, he is full of great advice and experience to relate to us.
All in all the
bootcamp was a great experience and I would do it again with all of these instructors in a heartbeat. I learned a ton and I'm still processing a lot and I know I need to practice if I hope to reach anywhere near their level.
I definitely give it two thumbs up…..or as
Big Business would say, It's money!
