    The Revenge of Duckie

In high school, my nickname was “Duckie” (seriously).

If you’ve ever seen the quintessential 80’s move, Pretty In Pink, you know who I’m talking about –the proverbial best friend to the pretty girl. He’s always there for her, but she never looks at him as anything more and has no interest in him whatsoever.

Even when I graduated, grew my hair long, and move hundreds of miles away, a fresh new crop of friends gave me the same damn nickname!

I wasn’t alone. Probably several of you were “Duckies” at one point or another to one or more women in your life.

(BTW: The original ending to Pretty In Pink had Duckie getting the girl, but the females in test audiences didn’t like it; they wanted her to get the cool, rich dude, so the movie was changed. You see? This phenomenon is ingrained in the female psyche.)

They always “say” they wish they could meet “a nice guy like us”… like we are eunuchs who only want their company and nothing more.

I feel your pain. I lived it. Yet, I never understood why this phenomenon occurred to us until I read “The Game”. It explained everything I had wondered about since I first discovered I liked girls.

    • Why were girls/women always attracted to jerks?
    • Why did pretty girls want to date ugly guys just because they have money/power/fame?
    • How did the average looking, shorts-and-flip-flops wearing, burping, farting, dirty-joke-telling guy at work get the most and hottest tail?
    • How come all the girls I liked just wanted to be friends until I gave up trying to date them, and THEN they MAYBE wanted to date me back?
    • Why did nice guys like me finish last in the dating race? What was I doing wrong?

Now, thanks to Mystery and Style’s work and the PUA community, I understand. And understanding is the first step to changing. Older, wiser, and fresh out of a long-term relationship, I’m ready to conquer.

Duckie’s back and, this time, the story’s going to end differently.

Thanks for reading. I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks for the advice. I did read Mystery Method and parts of Magic Bullets (especially the stuff on how to dress). I have also watched the MM and Style DVD's.

I've been a member of the forum for over a year, but haven't posted or even paid too much attention. My recent separation and the second season of "The PUA" inspired me to finally get active.

I have played around with the concepts and have had pretty positive results, but now I'm gonna do some serious studying and practicing to get more than just a number close from people like a hot waitress half my age (last week).

I will be posting my adventures soon.
