Feedback Loops and Tipping Points

The Daddy brings up a really good point in his post below, when he talks about the Tipping point for PU. The thread in question has turned kinda weird and theoretical, but I like the basic idea. It illustrates something that I have seen a lot with guys who enter the scene.

The Daddy uses a mathematical formula to explain "tipping points" in people's game. I'd like to use a different way of explaining the same thing: feedback loops.

PU has two feedback loops, confidence and social proof. Both of them work essentially the same; more confidence means more sucessful openers which means more confidence (etc). Likewise, more social proof = more sucessful openers = more confidence and social proof. The effects of this can be huge.

But feedback loops can also work in reverse. If you've got poor social proof, and lack confidence, you may find it hard to break out of that vicious cycle. Luckily, we start new every night, so these cycles are easy to break. Sometimes it's something as simple as breaking a bad leaning habit, or buying some new clothes to break the cycle. Essentially, setting up a positive feedback loop is the goal of the Newbie Mission. Once you get into that positive feedback loop, sarging is the most fun thing around.
