Default "out-gaming" your friend

How do you deal with friends being pissed at you for "stealing" their "target"? (The "target" is a friend of over a year... basically one-itis, and I didn't know he was attracted to her, or I wouldn't have gamed.)

1st, don't hit on a friend's one-itis.
2nd, how much of a 'friend' is he?

For one whole year and you didn't know about her? =\

3rd- Tell your friend to stop being such a bitch and to step up

Actually, I exaggerated a bit to make it look worse than it was. First of all, I just moved to town, but I knew this guy before, so we hadn't talked much in the past. Second, he knew barely this girl last year, but did a summer program with her this summer. I wouldn't say she's his one-itis, and from the vibe I got they weren't really that close of friends. The big problem is he talked me up to her (she knew my whole resume), which makes me think she was at the least intrigued by me even before we met. (I learned this lesson early as an AFC: Don't spend too much time talking about your male friends... it makes them sound more interesting than you.)
