Default The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

Hi

Anybody read "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand? If so, was it worth reading?

Yes, if you read it beacuse you like reading books, and for your own pleasure.

If you want to read it beacuse Tyler said so, and you'll think it will enhance your game, you'll never get to the end of it...

I read it years ago. Loved it. A very, very powerful read. Howard Roark vs. that commie bastard Toohey! (among other story lines)

Default It's an allegorical presentation of Ayn Rand's philosophy

It's a good read, particularly for 'NT' types (based on the Jungian/Myers-Briggs personality-type indicator) once you get past its heavy-handedness.

Intuitive thinkers there Johnny? I actually had to look that up because I always forget what N means because I know it doesn't start with N. Kinda makes sense. But I'm not here to argue with you about that. (Good videos, BTW. Yes, I took notes.)

I was just thinking, I'd recommend definitely reading "Fountainhead" for your own pleasure, as PrillePralle states. I'm not sure where you heard about it. My friend told me about it in undergrad. We were both business majors and objectivism has some great business principals. It was our kind of stuff. I don't know of any "PUA" gurus who have said to read it, but if they have, I find that interesting. It can't hurt to recommend it, but that's a big undertaking. By all means go for it if you wish, though. Great book.

I actually started reading Rand with the short book "Anthem".
Its a short read and it gives you a quick idea into what her thought process is. You may consider starting there.

Of course, you can now get synopses of "Fountainhead" on the internet now so you can 'cheat' and look at them to get an idea. I don't think those existed when I read it. Maybe they did and I just didn't find them.

Slightly related, I started reading "Atlas Shrugged" but I did not finish it. I got a few hundred pages in. I'll have to start over because that was years ago, but from what I remember, it was presenting the same underlying objectivist type principles with, of course, a great story. Most consider that her best book. A friend of mine who has read both considers "Fountainhead" better.

I prefer Atlas Shrugged by a huge margin, BUT ONLY IF you skip 'The John Galt Speech' which is about 70 pages of extremely pedantic and unnecessary rehashing of all the philosophy made very clear throughout the rest of the story.

Whenever I give a gift of that book, I staple the pages of 'The Speech' closed, and write [OMIT] on the top of the first page...
