evolutionary response of "a woman scorned"

What is the evolutionary response for "hell has no fury like a woman scorned"?
IMO, most often when break ups happen, the lady decides to go on a massive man searching mission, kissing and sleeping with anything that moves. I'm sure this happens in men but nowhere near as common.
