Default Tom Cruise & Frame control

Hey, just wanted to share this vid with you guys. It is in my opinion a great example of how to control frames.

YouTube - Crazy Ole' Tom Cruise on the Today Show

Watched the video, Tom is one of these guys that has charisma, holds attention and exudes frame control. You notice on that video several things that he does well to control the frame:

- Every time he speaks or intrerupts the guy he uses his name
- looks away when thinking, looks back to Matt when he speaks or
- looks away when giving starting a sentence then looks back when he emphasises a point
- Hardly raises his voice at all, hardly smiles (as they are disagreeing and to smile would be submissive in this case)
- Uses his hands when he is making a point
- Uses pauses to emphasis his point
- When Matt ignores his question and raises his own point, Tom says "i'm asking you a question Matt" to make sure he gets back to the conversation on his terms (and uses the present tense, not the past)
- owns a frame that he knows more about the topic

These are the things that you don't consciously pick up on, but makes people think, god this guy has some X factor

He is one of these guys thats so unaffected by things, which makes him great. The fact that there was all that fuss about Tom on Opera shows how cool and controlled he is usually, it was such a shock.

Great guy, weird beliefs, bags of charisma

Good point, he's a total legend, did you also notice that when he makes a point he leans in and when the host is making a point he leans out putting what it powerful and 'correct' in his terms. I did also notice some negative body language to though you can visibly see when he aggravated as he fidgets a bit in his seat and tends to re-comfort him self where he is sitting.

What do you guys think?

K Singh,

He's a legend, phenomenal frame control.

So is Bill O'Reily though, although Wild Bill is much more of an AMOG hahaha.

Tom Cruise does demonstrate good frame control, but a point to consider is that he did not continually have the frame. It may be better to say that Cruise was allowed the frame by the presenter. Who would you think came off better in the interview? The presenter appeared rational whilst Cruise appeared stubborn. Using Cruise's techniques for frame control seen here will not benefit you in getting woman. Just think of how he is being alienated for being strange.

It's hard to say who won the debate, but take in to consideration that TC is defending scientologi. Wierd as it gets.

In fairness Tom does a great job of defending a really irrational position with the Brooke Shields thing on this video by not giving any detail. You have to remember it is the presenters job not to give up the frame as well.

I don't think the structure of the conversation will tell you anything but just looking at Tom and the way he uses pauses, eye contact etc will be useful for being charismatic
