I'm getting assed...
Ok,
So I've been wanting to get a job, and my aunt got her husband to give me a job at an office.
I'm probably not entitled to any extra rights, but still.
I am to wake up at 4 AM to take a drive a city away, so I can work at an office until approx 6.30 - 7 PM, and I only get paid 100 $ a WEEK!
WTF!
I'm trying to save up for money for clothes for next year but I wont have enough with some $100 a week salary.
How should I handle this?
I dont want him to fire me, but shit, fuck this job if I'm working my ass off for 100 $
Job Description:
I work at a desk and set up/ manage THEIR WHOLE FUCKING database.
I add employees, book reservations, and every other aspect of their online database. I also answer the phones of his other four companies (ALL OF THEM) when his employees dont show up.
And he joked about me being smarter than all of them and only getting paid $100 a week.
What the flying omega goddess fuck.
And he jokes about me being a "kid", and kids get paid with food not money.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
How should I approach this?
And if he refuses to give me atleast minimum wage in Connecticut, USA?
Man, really, I know about family and all that, but if he's gonna bullshit me like this, fuck him. I can see why my Uncle stopped working for him. His pay is ass, and he's rich as hell.
7 companies and 2 homes. 15 cars. 2 limos. 2 Mercedes Benz and the rest are Sedans.
No, fucking no.

Find another gig closer to home, but don't quit until you line up the new job. You're obviously technically savvy, it won't be that hard to do. Freelance/Consulting is another consideration. Then you can charge $100 an hour.

Heh, I'm not exactly tech savvy.
I'm just a really fast learner. Their company that runs the program I use programmed it all. It's just that in one week I've learned to do more things with it than he has in 25 years.
I was going to get that old list of job oppurtunities my old school gave me, but eh, it's probably not directed towards me, and it would probably a nasty hassle to get them to give it to me.
I've been looking for a job, and I havent been able to get anything. This seems to be my last hope, and I only have a month left to raise the ~1.5k expenses I need to get down by the beginnning of my first year at college.
I would even resort to Mc Donalds and other choices, but even that isnt an option at this point (I wish it where )
So, I really need to get this guy to up the salary to atleast minimum wage, or I'm on the screwed scale.

Seems like someone is growing dependant on you.
$400 a month is NOTHING, even here, yet i can't imagine in Connecticut.
I'd just say, "listen, you're paying me here under the table, tax free, and stuff ,which is amazing....but it seems like i am working for 4-5 of your 'not so smart' workers......and the thing is............ what If i don't come to work tomorrow? and the day after tomorrow? Do you really think you're going to FIND someone to replace me at under $4/hr, which is not even legal minimum wage? I need at least $14 an hour, or $30,000 salary. With benefits. If this doesn't work for you, good luck, my last day is (two days from today)"

I'm telling him that first thing in the morning tomorrow.
Aww, too cool.
About dependency:
A hell of a lot.
He's trying to get me to come up every weekend when I'm at college too lol.

Here is another thought to consider:
This is a recent trend of filtering out shitty workers. I think Robert Kyosaki pushed this idea in one of his books.
Similar practices were observed in the movie, "Boiler Room"
You work for period of time, long hours, hard work, but you're only getting paid peanuts. Upon a year (or certain time) of dedication, commitment and significant achievement you get sweet benefits, a hefty pay increase, and vacation pay.
Abercrombie and Fitch hires interns right out of college/high school. You work 60-80 hour weeks, for literally 300-400 a week, no benefits, no overtime pay. A basically, hell on earth job. However, after two years, you get 65,000 salary, paid vacation (3-4 weeks) and nice benefits, (401k match, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, etc.)
So i can see what he's trying to do to you. It's almost like a "pledge" period in fraternity. You're someone's bitch during that period, but once you show your worthiness, you get in and get in well.
Microsoft does the same shit. Their base pay is shit, lots of work and ridiculous screening process.

They all sound legit though. My uncle sounds like one of those e-mails you get for free x-box's and cheap real estate and crap like that.
And the people who trained me, haven't recieved any promotions or boosts at all. And they've worked here for years. Plus they use this job to support college/bills. There is no way they can live off of 100 $ a week.
If they do, omg, they are illegal of SOME crime.

I asked for the raise
So here is how it went:
He gave me two thick ass stacks of papers with people I had to register into the account and reservations I had to book (that date all the way to next year).
He's even making me put songs on his Ipod.
Quote:
him = B Me : IP
B: Wow, so we have a lot of buisness huh?
IP: Yea...its a lot of work...how much am I getting paid?
B: $100 a week
IP:...Wow, thats pretty low for all this work.
B: How much do you want?
IP: Atleast minimum wage man
B: Oh yea? And how much would that be?
IP: Its 6.56 in CT....so like 7 $.
B: Ok, how about I give you $5.
IP: Well $400 a week would be easier, even though its still under minimum wage.
B: 400 $? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
^ Yes. That enthusiastically. If we werent in a traffic jam, he would have killed us in hysteria.
IP:....
B:WHOOOA. Thats too much, I cant afford that.
IP: Thats not even minimumwage.
B: Look, I'll give you 200 $ a week. and thats it.
IP: Wow, I could make more money at Mc Donalds.
B:Yea well this work is better. Its not about the money. (Building your company like kids in India do for nike. Yaaaaaay!)
IP: And its a lot more work
B: Yea? It is more work at Mc Donalds. You have to wash dishes-
IP: No I mean here.
B: Its not about the money. You want to call your aunt and talk to her?
IP: Sure.
He calls her up
B: Honey, Ice Pill wants $400 a week.
I can here a snowy voice go: "$400 A WEEK? HE'S JUST A KID! WHATS HE GOING TO DO WITH ALL OF THAT?"
*I take the phone*
IP: Hello.
Aunt (A): What are you going to do with all that money? Thats too much Ice Pill.
IP: Its not even minimum wage.
A: Well then you can go back to Brooklyn and find a better job.
IP:...
A: Ok?
IP: Yea..
*dial tone*
B: You dont have to take the job if you dont want it. I have a kid just like you begging me for a job like yours.
Yea, she's just as smart as you. (Bullshit) And she'll do it for 80 or 60 bucks a week (Straight from the hole Bullshit)
IP: ....
B: You know how much I paid my daughter when she was a kid?
IP: How much
B: $.75 an hour. (OMG I SWEAR HE OWNS NIKE!)
IP:...
B: When I was a kid your age. 18 to be exact, I had to fend for my own. My first job and I only got paid 1.85 an hour, 60 bucks a week. yea, and I had to fend for myself.
IP:...
B:But you're just a kid. Its not about the money. Is this your first job?
IP: Yea, my parents have been against it. They think I'm some weak minded kid that will let money influence me..
B: You're a smart kid man. This job isnt about the money. You can take something from this (what that is he never told me). You're even smarter than all of your co-workers and they get paid more for you.
IP: Yea...
B: But you're a kid. You even get to handle clients and learn stuff (W00t I can pick up a phone! Multi million dollar mansion here I come!). You get to talk to stars man. Like this guy. He's a best selling author.
He picked up a book called "Hug your employees", or some shit like that. Oh baby, I'm feeling the love.
On the way back he told me I didnt have to get started on the work right away. Aww man. I'm taking one huge BREAK in my work ethic. Yea, I'm gonna chill like the co-workers who are getting paid 2+ times more than me.
|
Im at 200 $. And threatened to lose my job. I've got to admit, if it wasnt for you guys helping me, I wouldnt have had the balls to even get a dollar extra.
I may not be getting the payment of a fucking citizen, but atleast I dont live in a factory....
But then again I work at their home too.

Wow man that sucks. I work a 96 hour fortnight and get 2208 a fortnight. This is in australia doing security work, but it's basically just staying awake. How valuable are you to the company?
Work out how valuable you are, and then make yourself more valuable. IF he's smart (which i'm taking he is if he's got all that stuff and earnt it himself) he'll realise it'll cost much more to replace you.
