OAP - DLV related Humour Ok,
I've been getting the OAP via email. Great stuff. It says that making a girl laugh is a DHV. It's a good skill to have and you should do it. That's great. Cos I'm good at making people laugh. I've always been the class clown etc. I don't usually have trouble making girls laugh. I realise though that a lot of my jokes rely on demonstrating lower value, and pointing out my flaws etc. Should I not be doing that, or is getting a laugh good enough of a DHV that it cancels out any negative effects?
For example, I'll be talking to a girl and the joke'll happen like this:
Her: blah blah blah. I won the spelling bee in highschool, I got a trophy an everything. Blah bla blah. Have you ever won anything?
Me: Me? Oh, yeah. I was Mr. Hardbody '98.
This always gets a laugh because I'm a scrawny nerd. It's obvious that I've never won a bodybuilding contest of any kind. I'm making a joke about how puny I am. It gets a laugh, but isn't it also a DLV?
Or to give you annother example:
Her: I work at the Zoo. I'm in charge of feeding the llamas. I could show you round sometime.
Me: Awesome, then I'll show you round where I work. Ever been to Blockbuster? I'm in charge of putting stuff on shelves... when my boss isn't in...
The joke here is my work is boring and I'm poor. In case you're wondering: No. I don't really work at blockbuster, I'm just trying to make a point. I do make jokes about being poor though. Is this a bad idea? Is the laughter enough of a DHV to make her not worry about the subtext?
What do you guys think?
