A memorial to those who got called out

So I went out tonight with two wings and I'm pretty new to the game so I still have that approach anxiety. I saw a three set with two brunette 6.5's and a blonde 8. I knew the blonde might have been out of my range but i went for her anyway as my target.

I went in with the "My friend's girlfriend doesn't like that he has pictures of his ex in a box under his bed" opener but she quickly caught me out half way through the routine saying "Is this a pickup line?" and I froze. I thought I had planned for any contingency but that one caught me totally off guard and threw me off my game. I ended up rolling off and got off that set quickly.

Any advice on how to handle a set where they might be catching on that you are doing a routine and not just asking for a girl's opinion?

It doesn't matter if you're new or if you're veteran to Pickup.

Common sense: Do not use shit from VH1 show, do not shit that was in "The Game" do not use stuff that's used by every single PUA out there.

AT LEAST CHANGE your canned material JUST A LITTLE BIT!!!!

I got called out hard by a girl tonight for using the MM. I had an opener that was very effective and ingaged the group. This is how it went: "hey girls I just got a text from a friend of mine, shes actually my ex-girlfriend, we are really good friends still. She just met a guy and thinks he's really funny and interesting but doesent think that he is cute. She asked me my opinion on if she should persue him or not , I told her honestly that I thought she was being superficial". I went on to say that I have been with pretty in girls in the past and that looks only go so far. I then asked, "so tell me honestly, are looks our personality more important to you guys". They talked for a while (they answered personality), then I cut them off and went into another routine which was set up by the opener. It went like this, "I don't think you guys are telling the truth, so answer this for me, if you were to have sex with a Full House cast member who would it be, Uncle Jesse (represents looks) or Uncle Joey (represents personality). They answered Uncle Jesse and I called them out on being liars for not being concruent in their answers. We talked on the subject for a while until one of the girls said, "you watch that show the Pick Up Artist don't you", she continued, "everything you've done is just like the things they do on the show". I didn't let it phase me and answered honestly, I said, "I actually have seen it and think its pretty interesting". I told them how I was genuinly intriqued by the show because I am a psych. major (which is the truth) and that a lot the things the show talks about line up with many social theories in psychology (which is also the total truth). I tried to make further conversation out of it, but they were not interested so I left. After she called me out on the MM, I really was ready to have an actual good conversation with the group, but as I talked more I found out that they really were not that interesting and I didn't care anymore. Losing the set didn't damage me at all. It was effective in combating my approach anxiety. Since I didn't care I wasn't invested therefore I couldn't get hurt. I knew that after this set I was just going to go to another one and try again.

Tell me what you guys think of the opener and routine. I actually felt pretty good about it.

It's going to happen.

Think of a way to come out of the situation.

Even though some guys are using their OWN materials they mimic PUAs stuff so closely that it's almost impossible not to get called out (if girls watch VH1 show)

Give it few weeks, everyone will forget about the show. (most girls have 5 seconds attention span....)

i have been called out before...

but honestly id say your doing something else wrong in your game if your getting called out, check body language and voice projection. i mean if a girl is really into you and attracted, i dont see why she would want to put you down and point out your flaws on some canned materials. anways.

this is what i said.

"oh actually i just caught an episode of that the other night, interesting stuff, so what you think that stuff really works? hm yeah id like to watch more of it, but wow i just dont got the time to watch tv, do you watch a lot of tv or something?"

usually works well, then they get slightly defensive and say no i dont want that much tv. and the subject changes rather quickly

Given that most of you guys are college-age, and VH-1 is geared for college people, I'm not at all surprised that a lot of you are getting called out on this.

Personally, though, I would have said along the lines of:
"No, I haven't seen it, but I've seen the previews for that show. You guys don't really believe in that crap, though, do you? I mean, obviously that stuff is SOOO set-up."

Hopefully, from there the women would start talking about the show a bit, while I nod my head and start asking little questions. Winds up leading the convo into a bit of a different direction, and takes some of the heat off.

I think your opener was good as well, though.

Here's my take:

1) Get fresher stuff - there are tons of openers here on this forum you can use. There's no need to get busted.

2) If you do get called out, don't jump through her hoop - DLV. Instead reframe. e.g.

HB "you watch that show the Pick Up Artist don't you"

PUA "that show on VH1? OMG I can't believe you watch VH1. I thought only old people watch that channel. What are you 49 and driving a minivan??"

or better yet

PUA "OMG you watch The Pickup Artist! Are you a player!? Are you trying to pick me up? I'm not that kind of guy. Just because I get dressed up and go out to clubs doesn't mean we're going to have sex." (Basically use the same line she's used on a thousand AFCs.)

3) Cut the thread and move on.
