I read Neil Strauss' article on pickup in NYT before "The Game" was published. I was intrigued but in a serious relationship. I remember thinking, wow, I wish I had known about this stuff when I was still in the dating game. Years later I find myself in my late 30s and suddenly single.

I've been reading a lot of the seduction literature in the past few weeks and I'm intrigued again. So far my favorite writer has been Carlos Xuma. I'm mentally gearing up for a newbie mission to get over approach anxiety but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I'm skeptical of canned material, and glad to hear on pickup podcast that others are as well. I imagine that an opinion opener here in NYC would come across as "baby what's your sign." One of my goals is come up with a few openers on my own, like so many people have said, the words don't matter as much as how you say it.

I was thinking the other night that these systems make good sense from a structural point of view but I can't help think of of Nietzsche's aphorism from "Twilight of the Idols", "The will to a system is a lack of integrity." But from what I gather, so much of the material PUAs are writing is designed like scales and arpeggios, and once the fundamentals are down, only then can artistry emerge.
