Default Hair advice

I am growing my hair, however it is only about 2 or 2.5 inches long on top. I want to get it styled properly as i always have just had it "cut" basically and then tried to style it myself. I see my hair as really boring and plain.

Here is my face and hair type:

I am wondering if i can pull off a look something like the following. I want to get a bit of highlighting, and also that really choppy, edgy look which i think would really stand out. Would it work for me?

Looks like you could pull it off, but I cannot see the highlights in my mind's eye. But, maybe bro, do what you want here, highlights might actually look aight.

I actually think you'd look good with highlights. Or just tips. They make the spiky-ness stand out more. Go for it.

If you were to get them, the highlights would need to be congruent with your style.

I say go for them too, just make sure to get them done by a professional and I wouldn't go as extreme as the singer posted above.

You can always highlight with a color that is a few shades lighter for a more natural appearance that still stands out.

I have really similar hair (length, texture, color) to you and just got it cut into a "messy fauxhawk" and then dyed it dark brown. Except i left the dye in too long and it came out black. Since then, every guy I know has been "why'd you go all emo?" while every girl I know has said "your new haircut looks fucking HOT."

Best accident of my life. Just something to consider man. Oh, and for that texture I'd recommend using american crew fiber with your hair slightly damp. good luck bro!
