Default Product for big, thick, wavy, bushy hair?

The problem:

When my hair is short, cowlicks take over.
When my hair is long, it becomes a large, unmanageable bush.

My hair looks great when I come out of the shower but as it dries, it turns into a mess. I can't say the word blowdry without looking like Doc from Back to the Future.

Is there a good product for medium length bushy hair?

My hair is almost exactly like Chris Isaak's.

I'd love to have this look:

Any recommendations?

You could use a pomade, they're quite inexpensive, last long and don't get your hair all sticky.

Thanks for the advice, went with American Crew Pomade. Expensive, but the stuff works great.

I have a similar hair type as you and I use a product from CVS called "Sportin' Waves". It's marketed towards black people with curly hair, but it works wonders with my hair as well and doesn't give it that gel like appearance.

Yeah pomades like sportin' waves are supposed to be a lot healthier for your scarp and will not build up in your hair like most gels. At least this is what my hair dresser says :/

American Crew Wax is also good. I have the same bushy hair, get a small dollop of the wax or pomade mix it in your hands and then just go to work on your hair. Looks great.
