| | | Fashion Advice for the Fashion-Inept Alright,
I'm sure these posts occur a lot but I figure that is what this forum is here for.
Anyways, when it comes to fashion, I'm fairly out of the loop. I don't think of myself as a bad-looking guy by any means. I just think my looks could use some improvement. Specifically I can't seem to pick out a good haircut for myself (I used to buzz it, now I go for more of a caesar cut.) Yes, I wear glasses, but I plan on getting LASIK once I'm in grad school (should I make the move to contacts in the mean time? I have about three-four more years as an undergrad with my dual majors). As far as what I wear… I've always been fascinated by the sort of James Bond suave-dude-in-a-suit look, so I tend to wear button ups a lot; in jeans of course. I just took some pictures of myself to help you all out. Any advice you could give me would be great, and thank you in advance.
Sorry if they're a little dark; I took them with my webcam and my apartment has poor lighting! |

The frame on your glasses in the photo don't let your eyes stand out , maybe try a thinner framed glasses . The shirt and jeans looks good however id maybe invest in some starch for the collar its dirt cheap and if you add it to your cuffs sleaves it gives the shirt a more expensive look . Not a fan of the t-shirt under a shirt look , it portrays to me a lack of confidence in yourself . I know with light shirts its horrible the thought of sweat marks but if you do sweat alot there are products out there that stop you sweating . They work better than anti perspirants.
Have you thought of trying out fitted shirts , try using a light coloured shirt with a dark pair of jeans and a brown belt or black belt (depending on the shoes). In the photo the shirt and jeans are a pretty similar colour , i would normally wear a darker jean with a shirt of that colour.
2 other nit picks , I think you need to take great care with shaving , in the first photo you have a really uneven shave on your top lip, In my opinion you should clean shave ... it will emphasise your jaw line . Finally it appears that you have a few spots or maybe you had acne when you were young , anyway if its spots , make sure to drink lots of water, wash your face with a good face wash product and eventually the spots will go . There are also cover up products to hide spots in the mean time.
Other than that man you look in good shape . I definately think with a dressy look and a slight tan you would have no problems.
Hope this helps

| | | Thanks for the tips.
Other people have told me before I have ... thick eyebrows. As for the acne, I wash my face every day, but I still get a lot of it. Shaving, yes, is rushed in the morning sometimes (as it was today).
As for wearing the white shirt underneath my other shirt, meh, I just habitually do that. I've been wearing white-T's with everything for years. I'll try going without them and seeing how things go. I don't sweat all that much, wasn't really why I was wearing them.
I haven't tried to find any fitted shirts, can I get these cheaply? I am jobless at the moment. |

| | | Fitted shirts arent that expensive if you avoid the big brands , if your between jobs at the moment id def go and buy some starch for your current shirts get that crisp new shirt look , get them tucked in your jeans and you will be in business .
If your getting annoyed about your acne , go to your doctors and see if you can get the prescribed acne removal cream.

| | | Fun fact: Washing your face a lot doesnt prevent acne.
You should really shoot for the prescription acne removal creme at your doctor, or try to get practive. They have an "emergency acne killer" creme that works overnight right? One night of that should cure your acne away in theory.

| | | I suppose I'll need to get an ironing board and an iron then if I get some starch? My shirts are wrinkled to all hell. Going to go buy some tweezers today to go pluck the eyebrows, I've never done it before so let's hope it goes well. Hopefully those online videos will have helped...
As for the acne, it appears that while I am still getting some; the majority of it are the spots left over from all the other acne I've had in the past. I drink more water than most human beings on an average day, so hopefully they will go away soon?
On a side note; is it recommended to get cologne? I always stayed away from the stuff when I lived at home because my mother always complained about any sort of "non-natural" smell, but now that I'm out of the house I see that a lot of people here are big on colognes and stuff. I've never really worn any. |

| | | Yea, cologne is a must. Read up on the cologne guide.
As for acne, medication is your best bet, I wouldn't rely on natural factors when it comes to acne.

| | | Hmm, I read through that cologne guide today: the thing is, I don't go out at night much. I'm 20 and won't be 21 for about 8 more months, so my nightlife is restricted greatly to parties and dates (I haven't gone on a date in months now…). It sounds like that Angel-Men or that Victoria Secret cologne got the best reviews as far as day-time cologne goes, so I'll see where I can find that. I don't think I've ever even been in a Victoria Secret store lol.
I did a bit of plucking of my eyebrows. Not really much at all of the actual brow, because I read that if you pull too much by accident you'll look pretty bad. But I did notice I had the beginnings of a unibrow, which I removed. Is there any special way I should go about trimming them? I have heard they are big from other people too.
The next chance I get, I am going to see about getting contacts as well. I think I look better without glasses, which I have worn all my life (well, I am sort of blurry without glasses so maybe I don't heh).
One other thing I have always been vacillating on is a hairstyle. I like it sort of short, like the caesar cut I have in the pic. Does it look as if it suits me well? If not, any suggestions?
Thanks! |

| | | Update: So, I went to Macy's the other day and bought me a nice fitted dress shirt after the guy there took my measurements, and a 1.7 oz bottle of Aqua Pour Homme cologne. The woman at the store was very very helpful, as she helped me look through a bunch of colognes (sprayed on a card, apparently smelling coffee beans helps clear your nostrils of the scents before sniffing more.) and also let me know what the ones in the store were the favorite of the women who worked there.
I wore the shirt and put on the cologne today. No real comments in either of my classes verbally but I felt pretty great today; caught a few glances, smiles, etc. I also looked the part of casual, yet sophisticated, which matched how I was feeling and I felt great overall. I'm pretty sure I got the best grade I've gotten so far on the hardest math test I've yet taken (as a math major.) and I got another test back which I had aced. Basically, I haven't felt this good about my looks ever… and there's a lot more I plan on adding once the money starts to flow my way.
I took a picture of myself today to see what you all think of the shirt? Also, the Bulgari Aqua Pour Homme cologne got great reviews everywhere I went. Does anyone else enjoy this stuff? It has a real clean, aquatic scent, which I preferred over the spicy scent.
