Question Anyone ever had a sunburn w/peeling skin?

I received a really bad sunburn over the Memorial Day weekend, was out in the sun at a barbeque on the beach for 2 days without any sunblock.

My question is this: after you finished peeling, will the new layer of skin be darker than your natural skintone, or will you effectively "peel" the tan off, so that you remain with the same color skin before the sunburn?

Does anyone know? Thanks!

i haven't peeled in a lonnng time. but from memory...isn't the non-peeled skin lighter than the outer layer?

regardless of that...put aloe vera on your burns. :]

It will be a little bit lighter, but still darker than it was before you tanned. Also, use aloe vera.

As everyone else has said, Aloe helps alot.

Also, as a general tip for skin care: drink water. I was outside in the sun (in the desert) allllll damn day, but I got sunburn maybe twice. This was because we were all drinking (at least) 10 quarts of water a day. Granted, you won't drink that much because that's for an *exceptionally* active lifestyle, but when you are on the beach, be sure to be drinking water a lot. When in doubt, drink more.

Also remember that sodas, which contain caffeine, speed up metabolism (a little), which in addition to the sugars and syrups, will DEHYDRATE YOU. Also, remember that sports drinks are great, because if you drink nothing but water, you aren't replenishing salts and such, but you shouldn't be drinking exclusively gatorade, because that has a lot of calories, which will effective you negatively in the long run if all you are doing at the beach is tanning.

So, now that I've gotten away from sunburn, let me return:

When going to the beach, be sure to drink, I'd say at least five quarts of water (about three of those big ass water bottles), if you are going to be active (walking the boardwalk, playing games,)

One quart of a sports drink for every two quarts of water.

Also remember that sodas, and alcohol will dehydrate you.

If you aren't burning, you're tanning better.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

When I get a burn, I put some moisturizing lotion on it afterwards. I reapply, reapply, reapply! I have found that the Aveeno lotions work really well, and I haven't peeled in YEARS because of this. And I know I've gotten burns that would have otherwise peeled. Plus, it turns the burn into (mostly) tan, moreso than just letting it peel.

When you put it on the first couple times(and as soon as you can after you have burned), the skin will really soak it up, and you can put more in in just a few minutes. The added bonus, is it gets rid of the surface pain quickly. There is a bit of a sting if you press hard on the skin, but the light touches don't really feel any different than normal.

But you answer your question, yes, you do become a bit darker after peeling, but even more tan if you can prevent the peel altogether. Oh, and if you moisturize the skin BEFORE you go out in the sun, you are less likely to burn as well.
