| | | "Cleansing diets"...yeah or nay? Looking to get started on the whole fitness thing again. I've been doing some light workouts, mainly swimming/running/jumping rope and high-rep/low-weight circuit training to get my body used to moving around again.
I'm having trouble on the diet front, though. Sticking to one, for starters, but I'm also wondering if I should bother with any of those cleansing-type diets out there for your colon and some of that stuff. Normally I wouldn't think about it, but my old job had a lot of fried food and melted-cheese type-shit lying around and I figure some of that may be sticking to me somewhere in there.
So how much do you buy into them, and can anyone link me a good one?

| | | I did the cabbage soup diet a few years ago (in an effort to lose weight, not really thinking about the detox effect) and after a couple of days of lots of time spent on the toilet, I felt thouroughly cleaned out. After one week, my energy went through the roof, and I had lost 11 lbs - with no excersising at all.
I recommend that diet more for the detox / cleanser effect than for weight loss though, as it's a hard diet to stick to for longer than a week due to the taste and smell of the soup. |

| | | Mmm. Cabbage, huh? That sucks. I hate cabbage. Isn't there something out there with a lot of grapefruit and such?
11lbs is impressive, though. I have the feeling, just based on my past crappy eating habits, that I would see good results from this kind of cleansing diet. I'll have to look into it more.

| | | I was just reading about these today. I'm interested in tryin it cause I used to eat like shit until about 10 months ago. But I'm on my quest to get to 8% bodyfat for another month, and I dont wanna screw with my nutrition or metabolism until then.
The basic gist I get from these is to pretty much eat only fibrous veggies and some fruit, and drink only water for 3 days-1 week. Anyone know more? Specific strategies and results?

| | | they are a stupid idea, the cabbage soup diet was a joke, the hospital mentioned doesn't exist
there is no need to cleanse, your body does that anyway
just eat real food, not manufactured rubbish and you'll be fine

| | | what? so you believed all the hype?
depends, if you only eat at mcdonalds then yes a change to some vegetables will help you
but if you already eat well, lots of protein, veg, fruit, fish oil etc, then forget detox hocus pocus

| | | Meh. The problem is that I went from eating like crap (loaded cheese fries topped in bacon and dipped in ranch, anyone?) to eating actually pretty well.
However, I'm aware that some of that crap can stick to your intestines for a pretty long time. I've been eating healthier for a little while now (basically since I ditched my old job, where that food was around all the time), but wouldn't mind speeding up the process of getting some of that old, bad shit out of my system ASAP.
