I had 2 cycles of accutane the first one worked, but a few months later the root of the problem still existed so the acne returned. Mind you I had acne for 4 years, and going to dermitologists to treat it didn't help AT ALL! Benzimycine, Tetracyclene, Minocyclene, and Accutane did nothing for me.

Then one day I go to a Naturopathic Doc. He ends up putting me on this brown rice diet where i eat nothing but fish, chicken, brown rice, fresh vegetables and fruits and soy milk. The acne dissapeared within 2 weeks and was due to the fact that i was allergic to the gluten in bread. I'm a hardcore peanut butter and jam fan. So I hope this helps.

Oh i forgot to mention, that the side effects of doing Accutane has left me with thin hair. So i would not recommend doing these dangerous chemicals.

I would recommend that everyone do the following AFTER FINISHING your Accutane treatment:

- Start taking a multi-vitamin that's formulated for men
- Add LOTS of fish into your diet
- Eat lots of carrots
- Do REGULAR head massages to your head (move your hands in a circular motion on your head - that stimulates hair growing nutrients to enter into your scalp)
- Do not ever get depressed... one of the symptoms of depression is hair loss (and I'm serious about this one - I got depressed after Accutane and my hair started falling out like MAD but as soon as I cheered up and picked myself up, the hair stopped falling out)
- Exercise regularly

That combination of things altogether has helped me regain control of the hair loss (and other mood related things). I'm not losing as much hair as I was right after I was done Accutane. Hope that helped.

Hey so what's the ordeal with the extremely dry lips after the treatment - does anyone know how to help the lips produce lubrication again?

I'm MAD suffering from dry lips still... and it's been over a year that I've been off Accutane now. My lips crack and bleed if I don't apply chapstick, but I've decided to stop using chapstick because I was obviously addicted to it due to Accutane...

Can't even make out with a chick without leaving blood on her lips and feeling self-conscious around the mouth area all the time...

Alpha,
I had dry lips, I used bacitricin oitment
helped with the dryness, and helped with the healing, and even had a slight numbing agent for any slight pain.

I had dry skin side effects for almost a year, after I stopped
(first very dry, then less and less)
but if you still have lips that dry after over a year, i would check back with your dermatologist and see whats up with that, and what you can do.

Isotretinoin (INN) (IPA: [ˌaɪsoʊˈtrɛtənoʊɪn]) is a medication used for the treatment of severe acne. It is sometimes used in prevention and treatment of certain skin cancers. It is a retinoid, meaning it derives from vitamin A and is found in small quantities naturally in the body.

Isotretinoin noticeably reduces the production of sebum and shrinks the sebaceous glands. It stabilizes keratinization and prevents comedones from forming. The exact mechanism of action is unknown, however it is known that like other retinoids, Isotretinoin works by altering DNA transcription.[3] This effect decreases the size and output of sebaceous glands, makes the cells that are sloughed off into the sebaceous glands less sticky, and therefore less able to form comedones.

Sebaceous glands secrete an oily substance called sebum (Latin, meaning fat or tallow) that is made of fat (lipids) and the debris of dead fat-producing cells. In the glands, sebum is produced within specialized cells and is released as these cells burst; sebaceous glands are thus classified as holocrine glands.

Sebum is odorless, but its bacterial breakdown can produce odors. Sebum is the cause of some people experiencing "oily" hair if it is not washed for several days. Earwax is partly composed of sebum.

Sebum acts to protect and waterproof hair and skin, and keep them from becoming dry, brittle and cracked. It can also inhibit the growth of microorganisms on skin.

-----------------------------------

Accutane stops your skin from spitting out oil, its going to be a very very dry time.

5 years ago I lost hair on parts of my head due to accutane and had to discontinue the treatment. I still have patches of bald spots to this day.
