Dressing Up My Major
I am studying to be a petroleum engineer. When telling this to women, I almost always get complete ambivalence. Though there isn't much excitement to the major at surface, I believe it represents a lot of good qualities including intelligence, ambition, travel, future wealth, etc.
I talk about it enthusiastically and passionately (because I am enthusiastic and passionate about my major) but mostly I get a very lackluster reaction. Do you guys have any advice about how to present it differently?
Also, most of the girls I hit on are college aged which I think is part of the problem.

College girls don't care what your major is as long as you're cool. The football star doesn't lose girls because he's a communications major.

if you want anything to sound exciting, you have to think about how you can relate it to something of high interest to your audience. for example, a friend of mine mentioned a similar problem - that he thought his job was boring and women wouldn't find it interesting when he mentioned what he did. he's a software developer.
well shit! computers fucking run our lives. software development is an integral part in almost everything nowadays. he too is focused on college women - or women of that age group. well, what do most college chicks do when they log onto their computers? they go to myspace. so now when a woman asks what he does, he says:
him: you ever heard of myspace?
her: omg, of course!
him: well, i basically create programs for websites like myspace, or facebook, and stuff like that. i pretty much do the same shit as tom, only i change my default pic more often than he does.
think about some super cool shit that your audience is into, that could never happen without somebody like you, and focus on that.

Good answer. I think I will just not bring it up until asked.

ELEV8: I'm guessing your suggestion would be for me to ask along the lines of "So...... do you drive?"

Honestly man, I wouldn't talk about your major too much. Just tell her and change the subject.
Unless you're REALLY good at making it sound interesting, you're probably just going to bore her, or sound like you're trying too hard.
It's a lot easier for you to convince her that you're cool *despite* being a petroleum engineer than it will be for you to convince her you're cool *because* you're a petroleum engineer.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing so far. I'll go through an interaction with a girl and when she finally asks my major and I tell her, she's like..... "Seriously? You're a lot more fun than the engineers I know...blah blah blah"
I posted so I could get some ideas about how to make my major more attractive and whether I should include it in my A2.
Thanks for the advice so far btw.

80% of the total knowledge of most college age girls' come from MTV and VH1. Most don't know what an engineer is, and the smart ones only know that petroleum is something to do with oil. Or that it's like some kind of like jelly.
Kinda like the others said, I wouldn't bother making a big deal out of it unless asked specifically what it is. Then when you get that blank stare, ask them point blank, "Do you know what that is?"
Then explain and DHV it, but it can't be a 45 minutes explanation. You want it under 2 minutes, otherwise she's gonna lose interest.
