The idea behind an opinion opener is to shield the fact that you're hitting on her. That's why I don't like the opener : "If you were an animal what would you be?" because it's doesn't sound like something you were genuinely be wondering, it sounds like something you're using as a means of starting a conversation.
It's just not a good opener.

The nor is what type of dinosaur would you be or what type pf muffin would you be? I think these can work at the bar though, they have worked in the past. I still can't come up with an opener I've developed myself that is congruent with me. To me openers all sound like they are random questions and you are obviously hitting on the girl.

These are qualification questions not openers. You need to grab some stock material and talk to girls awhile before you start debating what does and does not work on the forums.

I can promise you that the vast majority of the times I use an opinion opener I have everyone in the group convinced that I am genuinely wanting their opinion and nothing else.
Especially when I give the guys more eye contact attention (at first) than the girls + the false time constraint...they have almost no reason to believe I'm hitting on anyone.

To be honest, I absolutely hate opinion openers unless I really have a wanting desire to know and it's actually happened to me.
Most of the time, I just grab my balls, adjust, and then walker up to them and say, "Hi!" and then continue with conversation. Usually, it'll be a quick introduction, "Hi! Tell me you're name. Awesome! My name is Del." Then I usually go into something like, "Tell me something interesting about yourself."
Honestly, it's just getting to know people. I don't "open" as a PUA, that shyte comes later in the conversation.
Hell, if I don't get anywhere with it, then I just made a new friend and hang out buddy. Social status for the night.

If you're crossing the room to open it's best to go direct.
That said no girl thinks you're actually just asking for an opinion ever... They always assume you're hitting on them. Every time. No matter what your body language or verbal communication is.

I just can't agree with that.
Just about three / four weeks ago I approached a mixed set of two guys and three girls at a place where a live band was playing. I leaned over the guys and said to them (but loud enough so the girls can hear), "do you think the drummer looks like Doc from Back to the Future?". They agreed, then I noticed that their band symbol even resembled the flux capacitor (it was an upside down peace symbol) and mentioned it and they started laughing. A couple of the girls were listening and started laughing too and I immediately jumped into "hah, you two must have been friends for a long time" they asked "yeah, why?" and I went into best friends test. I was then able to transition into some normal conversation without being the "awkard guy who forced his way into our group". I number closed one of the girls who was an 8 or a 9 if you like girls with makeup (although I never called because I don't really care).
I know, I know..big whoop-tee-freakin-do like this isn't something you've done/heard of a million times; I'm only telling the story because I truely believe they had no idea that my intentions were to hit on the girls. I could be wrong but I'm pretty honest with myself.

You think the dinosaur question is qualification? Bit random

Again for me a situational opener is much easier than an opinion opener. It's the whole rooting of opinion openers that doesn't sit well with me.
Direct questions I'm fine with but they have lower success.
Situational openers I'm fine with but you need a situation to be near you.
Opinion openers just sound rehearsed. I'll keep thinking of some.

I'm going with Sinn on this one. Partly because his observation is right. And partly because Sinn's vomit has better advice than most people, when it comes to the opposite sex. Not to mention he's taught a few thousand students.
Girls always know when you're fishing. If YOU think otherwise, its because they LIKE being chatted up. By you. Well done!

Yes, they are. But you can't rely on them. You might know that opinion opener isn't random, but the girl won't. She knows you're chatting her up, but if you're comfortable with yourself, she'll welcome the attention.
And seriously GenePoole. You need more time in the Field Reports section and less time having an intellectual discussion about game. You're hurting yourself with these discussions and internal debates.
I know its difficult changing the person you are. That introverted, intellectual nature of yours, its done you very well in your life so far. But its not fun, and its not sexy. And it's a hindrance to your biological need to get some ass.
Stop thinking. Start living. And go talk to some girls.
We all been there. And our best advice is stop thinking.
Happy Sarging
