Are the looks really that important?

I was pondering about what is really important to women when they are choosing their boyfriend ( what attracts them to a man) ... so I made a pool on one dating site. Here are the results ( I got only ten votes so it is not enough representative - but I could see who voted on my site - it was a dating site so I saw the pictures of the girls who voted - all were 8+). Here are the results of the pool:

The question : What is the determining factor when you choose your boyfriend?
Responses:
Attractive looks: 40 %
Intelligence: 30 %
Confidence: 10 %
Sense of humor: 10%
Excitement: 10 %

Status, fun and style got zero votes.

Is the looks so that important as my pool has shown because I have seen the most beautiful women with average or worse looking guys ..... Why women rate looks so high - if this were true, then many of the greates PUAs had little or no chance .....

Looks are not that important. The problem isn't a too small sample of women's opinion in this poll. The problem is putting any weight on what women think is important, they have no clue what they want.

You have to consider several factors:

- If she's looking for ONE NIGHT STAND looks do play much more important role.
- If she's looking for a HUSBAND she's probably not going to care that much about looks but she'll worry about his providing abilities
- If she's looking for a BF and she is YOUNG looks will be important moreless but so is Social Status
- If she's looking for a BF and she is OLDER looks do not matter as much, but maturity and intelligence does
- If she's OVULATING she is going to go for the most ALPHA male, regardless of looks
- If she's in a SOCIAL environment, such as girls night out, where social pressure to hit on CUTE guys is high, LOOKS will matter, but you wont be sleeping with her
- If she's EXTREMELY HOT she will consider looks to be important. She knows she's hot and she knows she has choices, why not have the hottest guy, not necessarily with best game
- If she's a PUBLIC FIGURE or CELEBRITY status and looks will matter the most. (status = social status + money)


There are tons of research done on this subject.


What most women mean by attractive looks is: be in shape, have some muscles, be tan, have style, clear skin, and decent haircut. Being good looking as man is easier than being good looking as a woman.

Also if your game is ridiculously tight, you can get away with ANY looks. But the hotter the girl the "tighter your game" has to be if you're not "GQ-type" material.

EDIT: There is a lot of competition for hot girls. Some guys competing after her have BOTH: looks AND game. So you have to over compensate on game.

Looks are a major factor in whether or not a girl will be attracted to you in the first few seconds of interaction, after that any girl can end up liking any guy depending on his actions after that, and they ususally won't know completely why.

Most people don't know specifically why they like something, they just know the general things that stick out in their head but are rarely aware of all the subconcious communications that occurred leading up to their attraction.

in short, yeah they don't really know what they like or even what they want...if you don't believe me try and let them decide what restaurant you're going to.

I would like to chime in and add, there are two types of looks that really matter,

1) physical look
2) appearance look

And both matter. But what matters, is a combination of the four, with the third being confidence and fourth being personality.

In my book, I would rate them in the following

1) confidence
2) physical
3) appearance
4) personality

You could be the hottest guy in a room, but be dressed like shit, unkempt, and without any confidence. That guy will be eaten alive by the ugly duckling who is confident, has appearance, and has a personality and is the alpha etc.

Remember, walking up to a girl is just like auditioning for a role, by the time you stretch your hand out to introduced yourself, she has already made an assessment about you. The way you are dressed, walk, smile, appearance, physical, etc.....

So, the in the "looks" department, you just can't have a Brad Pitt face. Yes, goes without saying, if you have a Brad Pitt face makes life easier, but it is very common to hear a woman say something like "shit he is hot, but man has no personality and is so full of himself"...
