It almost seems like a shield so they can avoid being approached. I'm sure this topic has been brought up before, I just didn't find it. My question is, how do you approach a situation like this? Three second rule is out, and you can't follow them around until they get off the phone.

I notice this a lot as well, especially in stores like Target. It seems like 90% of them are on their cell phones now adays.

And you'd be wrong. They're running errands. Which is boring. Alone, which is lonely and boring. So they talk on the phone. Which is almost as good as having their friend handy.

Appropriate move is to walk right up, tap her on the shoulder, and introduce yourself. Pretend the phone isn't there. Whoever she's talking to, it isn't important.

i can't see a convo lasting very long in that sorta situation, let alone the hb responding positivly.

Try it. You've got three minutes to start a story or two, get her laughing, even seed a day 2 before she realizes she's on the phone. And you'd be surprised how often she tells her friend she'll call back, and hang up.

why is she gonna hang up on a call or a text for someone that she knows for some stranger that is tapping on her shoulder? sounds like she would say "wait" or "im on the phone" and your value would in the negatives.

Cedar is right. If your opener and attraction game is tight she will want to get off the phone and talk to you. Girls are flaky. If she flakes on the person on the other end it won't be the first time.

She'll drop her call, have a wonderful time with you. And IMMEDIATELY call back her friend and say, "OMG, you'll NEVER believe what just happened!" Then she'll scream and get all girly. It's amusing to watch.
