how i got good
I got an email from a guy today who wanted to know how i got good being that I haven't been in the community very long. He says-
"Hi Brad,
Love your FRs. Inspiring and funny as hell. I'm most impressed by your incredible and finely tuned calibration skills: your ability to change game midflow. It's amazing.
I know you've written about your background a little bit on ASF, but I was wondering if you could expand in more detail your journey to mPUA. It's more intriqueing since you admit you developed your skills outside the community.
How did that journey unfold? Did you simply copy what your natural friends were doing? What were those things? What kind of roadblocks, kinks, changes in mindsets that enabled you to progress so rapidly? And where were you when you started? By the last question I mean did you have AA, or did you have that down and it was a matter of getting #closes? Where did you start? How did your calibration skills get so damn good?
Maybe you could post something on ASF. That would be great. I think a lot of guys would appreciate it.
Brad, thanks for your time and I look forward to reading future posts.
Best
Ian "
OK this isn't something I would normally write a post about, because it's a little presumptuous for me assume people would care to read it, but perhaps Ian has a point. So I'll write it, even if only one guy is interested so be it.
Yes, this is correct, I accumulated the majority of my skillset outside the community. It was fucking hard and I hope you guys appreciate that the community can help you get there with less work than I had to do. Coming in, I had some advantages and some disadvantages.
disadvantages-
long history of being nerdy
nice guy tendencies
awkward physical stature
not really super good looking
flat broke and in CC debt, shitty apartment
advantages-
had well developed identity- cool hobbies like playing the guitar, playing basketball, songwriting
had jobs that required social skills and built social skills- I was a social worker for 5 years, before that I was a basketball coach, I worked at a camp for kids with cancer, I taught the guitar for a while, I had a job in the entertainment industry, I was CFO of a struggling software co., was a street musician for a couple of years
Had a history of skill building-mostly from college basketball and being a self taught guitar player
Personality traits- I'm analytical, and very stubborn and determined
Backround in psychology and philosophy
Had access to naturals
I read a few self help books and one of them pointed me in the direction of "meeting women is a skill you can learn." I started building that skill like 7 days a week. Along the way I read some of the free emails from dating advice lists. Some of it was good, some not. I didn't read much, I'd say less than 100 pages total.
From there I ended up going on this long trip, traveling on business. I was only in each town for a few days, and so I had no choice but to do tons of approaches. This is how I viewed it: I could either learn to get women in the sack fast, or else it would be a life of celibacy. I viewed it as a "do or die" situation. I did so many approaches it was crazy. Like 15 a day, every day. The first natural I worked with was this guy Joe (Joe Natural, now my assistant coach). He fixed my look, and had the whole game totally down. This guy has banged tons of girls, lots of models and stuff, he even outgamed Tommy Lee to the point that the bodyguards threw him out for stealing all the girls. I stole a lot of what he does. It was a little awkward in the beginning. I know my friends were talking behind my back and saying I was trying to be like him, but I didn't care. Joe is not a community guy, and he even gave me flak a few times for "trying to run some wacky game." A lot of people I knew thought I was being weird. But I was getting some results, so I didn't care what people said. I ended up traveling all over the USA for 8 months learning all parts of the game- approach, phone, escalation, etc. I only had one opener for the first 4 months (Hey do you know where to get cotton candy around here this time of night?) but I had delivered it so many times that it developed into an entire stack. Joe had been using the same stories all the time too, so I knew I could repeat the same stuff all the time and it would work. During my 8 month "
bootcamp period" I was solo sarging 80% of the time, but I worked with another natural as well. The guy I was working with was this black skateboarder guy. He was super aggressive and opportunistic. He did stuff that made no sense, like hit on fat girls. Then the fat girls would lead us to hot girls and it would all make sense. I got my aggressiveness from him. I took some hard knocks from being too aggressive, but I had to test the limits of what I could get away with. I think I was a dick to a few girls being all miscalibrated, but I learned by trial and era. A crucial part of my development was that I made a choice that I would rather be too aggressive than not aggressive enough. I decided I would accept the consequences of being too aggressive, but I would never accept thinking about "what might have been" as a result of being too passive.
When I got back I started to discover the very outer layers of the community-
David D and TD. I couldn't believe people actually made money doing this, I thought those were the only 2 guys doing it. By that time I had gotten pretty good from 8 straight months of sarging. I had some seriously amazing routines like horsegirl and reckon/yonder. I even stole a few TD routines and used them in my game. I had lost my job and was broke, so I decided to start a little class like those guys were doing. All my friends were telling me to teach it cause I was teaching them. I've done a few homemade business ideas previously, so I figured why not try one more. To my surprise it really took off. In the beginning it was just classroom stuff, if people wanted to go out in the field I'd say 'you need to find these guys
david d and tyler.' God knows how much business I must have generated for RSD without even knowing there was an RSD.
I did start my own field missions a few months later and damn I was fucking good out there. I was # closing like every single set I approached. But then I went away again and traveled for a while. I had a new skill to learn- the ONS. I spent 3 months learning the ONS. I learned from another natural- The Pheromone Kid. He could seduce women in under 10 minutes. Joe Natural pulled more high quality, but the Kid just had pure speed unlike anything I'd ever seen. I got my ONS game really down to the point where I could pull maybe 60% of the time, but the girls have to be cute. Almost all the girls I pull are 8 or higher and are between 19 and 24yo. I could probably pull a higher % if I lowered standards, but I'd rather keep the standards up. Again, there were some hard knocks along the way. I lost a few lays at the last second. I got CBed all over the place, but it forced me to develop every part of my game. By the time I got back from that my game was super tight. Going away and traveling helped a lot. Working with the naturals helped a lot too. My
seminars were getting bigger and the guys who were showing up would raise their hand and say something like "Hey I'm having trouble with A3" which was complete greek to me. So I'm standing in front of a room full of guys looking all baffled when I'm supposed to be the king of this shit. Eventually people just started telling me about the community all the time. This guy Obi started a lair in NY (
www.nyc-seductionlair.com) and invited me in. RSD's accountant guy told me about fastseduction.com, students were telling me to read mystery method, but I was kind of oblivious to it all. I went to fastseduction.com and it looked really confusing, so I didn't bother to follow up with it for a while. I was just too wrapped up in doing my own thing- getting laid, traveling around. Eventually I had no choice but to alter what I teach to accomodate the community guys in the class, as they were starting to outnumber the mainstream guys. This is when I started reading and posting on ASF a lot.
All of this teaching had a good effect on my game. I started writing LRs and that had a good effect on my game as well. I was forced to pick apart what I was doing and reflect back on it. This is when my calibration started really getting good. I could see the CBs before they could see me. I could smell the buying temperature before I even did the approach. I attribute that mostly to field experience. If you had as many hours in the field as I do, in only a few short years, you'd probably be the one posting 35 LRs.
The next part of my game I had to learn was
3somes. I always wanted to have
threesomes, and I never really got it done. I met another natural- Buzzy, who walked me through it completely. That was fucking hard to learn, but I got it down. I've had I think 6
3somes this year, all with different sets of girls. I've done it in many forms- 2 FBs (this is easiest), 1 girl I know and sarge for the 2nd girl together, 2 new girls. Very challenging stuff. Buzzy has had like 30
3somes I think. He was really helpful. It took me about 3 months to learn.
The next part I learned was club game. This is really hard also, but the girls are high quality. I also wanted to learn peer group building because I feel this is a topic that is neglected in the community. I had to learn it before I could teach it. I tapped into another natural to learn club game- Promo. He is a master at networking and he gets really hot chicks. That took about 3 months to learn as well.
Right now I'm heavy into teaching and traveling. Traveling is one of the best ways to improve your game. It always takes you out of your comfort zone. Being in your comfort zone does nothing for your game.
I'm also in the process of feeding all of this knowledge I got from naturals into the community- doing interviews and stuff. I'll tell ya something, it's hard to amass all this information, and it's even harder to get it out to people. You have to sit in front of a computer typing when you'd rather be getting laid. I'm editing all these interviews, burning them, sending them out, etc. I think it's really important though, because most people will never get access to these guys like I did. I've spent so much time around them, sometimes I think maybe I've become one of them.
Pretty much every part of my game that I was focusing on has a natural I learned it from-
Approach/Fashion- Joe Natural
Aggressiveness- Skater guy
ONS- Pheromone Kid
Threesomes- Buzzy
Club game and
social circle building- Promo
There are other naturals in their circles who I will get eventually. Promo knows this guy who dates famous supermodels. Pheromone Kid knows a guy who he learned everything from. It's gonna take me time to track these guys down.
So the basic format for me improving was like this-
1. model a natural
2. use my own brute force and determination to integrate it into my game
3. crystalize it further by reading, writing and teaching.
I'm still pretty lazy on reading. I still haven't read anything from mystery or
juggler. Pretty bad, I know, but at least it prevents me from rehashing other people's methods when I teach.
I find it unbelievable that people are spending 10 and 20 hours a week reading. That's like getting dragged to the library when you're a kid. Don't ya wanna go outside and play???
I have to say, I am amazed by the community in many ways. The cooperation of people here is amazing. And the sheer volume of knowledge is amazing too. I'm glad I got dragged in. I went up to the Cliff's list convention and everyone was so cool there. I've hung out with formhandle and TPUA, Lance, Will H, Savoy,
Badboy, Sebastian and
Woodhaven, Jlaix, all really cool guys and I can totally see that you can learn a lot from them. It's really fun to absorb a fresh perspective from some of the greatest minds out there.
As far as AA, I think I did have it. I'll still get a little twinge of it here and there. You just gotta fight through it. If you don't have much balls you're not gonna get very far. I swear someday I'm going to develop some kind of a program that just makes you grow balls. Maybe just throw guys out of an airplane all day or something. If you can't do approaches on your own, these days you're fine cause you can just go take a
workshop or something. But you also might want to address the fact that you don't really have a lot of balls in life in general. (Just a general statement, not singling out Ian in particular).
OK I hope that was helpful and it wasn't too indulgent or self centered.
