Malibu’s Guide to the KamaSutra

[props to Hysteria for giving me the idea to write this. He made a comment about my last major post “Malibu’s Guide to Sex Positions” being the KamaSutra for PUA’s. Well…the kamaSutra is not all about sex positions. In actual fact only 20% of the KamaSutra is based on Sex Positions and the only reason it is, is the essence of spirituality in touch between two members of a divine union. Here is a bit of an insight to the KamaSutra for you all to apply to your game. Not only can the theories of the KamaSutra be used to strengthen your sexual game but also your inner and spiritual game. It will help you to become one with your sexuality….and that’s where the real fun begins. Enjoy ]
The Kama Sutra, or Kamasutram to the ancient world, is an ancient Indian text on human sexual behavior, widely considered to be the standard work on love in Sanskrit literature. Kama is literally desire. Sutra signfies a thread, or discourse threaded on a series of aphorisms. The text was composed by Vatsyayana, as a brief summary of various earlier works belonging to a tradition known generically as Kama Shastra, the science of love. He believes that the various major works of Kama Shastra had become difficult to access, which is why he undertook to collect and summarize them in KamaSutra.
Only about 20 percent of the Kamasutra is devoted to sexual positions. The remainder gives guidance on how to be a good citizen and insights into men and women in relationships. The KamaSutra describes making love as "divine union". Vatsyayana believed that sex itself was not wrong, but doing it frivolously was sinful. The KamaSutra has helped people enjoy the art of sex at a deeper level and can be considered a technical guide to sexual enjoyment, as well as providing insight into the sexual mores and practices of India in those times.
The KamaSutra contains a total of 64 sexual positions and depicts positions as arts. Vatsyayana believed there were eight ways of making love, multiplied by eight positions within each of these. In the book, they are known as the 64 Arts or the 64 chapters. The eight ways of making love are as follows:
• The Embrace,
• Kissing
• Scratching
• Biting
• Lying down
• Making various sounds,
• Playing the part of a man, and
• Mouth congress (Auparishtaka)
Famous 24 Positions of the KamaSutra
As discussed there is 20% of the KamaSutra dedicated to sex positions. I thought it would be a good idea to briefly step through the most famous and rehearsed positions of the KamaSutra. They are extremely hard and require vast amount of flexibility to perform each of these positions and yoga practice makes a huge difference. Muscle strain is inevitable. I’m not going to describe each of these positions in too much detail. That would be pointless as they cannot be described with words easily as can be seen below. I have listed the names and a basic description so that you may research each of them at your own pleasure. You may notice that the beauty of the positions are not with the different types of movements or positions of the body….the beauty lies with the execution and the step by step sequence of how the movement takes place. There are 24.
1. The Frog – The man squats and the woman sits on his lap her arms around his shoulders. The man then lowers her onto her back and in the same position thrusts into her while he is on his feet.
2. The Hunter – The man kneels with his right knee on the ground and his left foot on the ground….the woman then hovers over his groin with her right leg over the mans left thigh (the one with his foot one the ground!) The man then leans forward and the woman pulls her left foot behind her body and hangs herself of the man as he thrusts into her.
3. The Cow – The man kneels on the bed/floor with his legs close together and his arse on his heels. The woman then sits on him back to him with either leg over each side of him. He then penetrates from behind and she leans forward on her stomach (variation of doggy style)
4. Chariot – The man and woman sit and face each other with each others legs over each others shoulders…phew…that was a mouth full!....then they pull each other close and continue to kiss as the man thrusts into his partner.
5. Canopy of Stars – The man sits on the floor/rug with his legs spread wide. The woman sits into his crotch with one leg around his waist and one leg over his shoulders. After a while the lovers grab each others wrists and lie back holding each other. The woman brings both her legs bent and spread over the mans torso…one foot each side and the movement continues.
6. Feeding the Peacock – The man stands with the woman in his arms. Her legs wrapped around his waist…If the man tires the woman can put her feet on the ground and the man can continue movement.
7. The Plough – Same as the cow but the mans legs are not underneath him…they are spread the same as the woman. Similar to “spread-eagle”…refer to my original sex position post.
8. Temple – similar to the Chariot the couple sit in close with only one leg opposite each other on their shoulders. The other leg is on flat on the bed and they hold there hands on that side above their body.
9. Shoal of Fish – he woman half squats in front of a bench. The man comes from behind and lifts her onto the bench while penetrating her. He then carries her legs over the edge of the bench while her torso (face down) is resting on the bench and he thrusts into her.
10. The Wheel – the classic pornographic pose seen by all…well maybe all! The woman stands on her head while the man penetrates her as he stands over her.
11. Cocoon – the man sits like he does in the cow. The woman then sits on his lap facing and mounting him with her arms around him. Her legs are to his sides and the man thrusts as he holds her back up. This position then transitions into the butterfly.
12. Butterfly – From above the man then picks up his lover. Keeping one knee on the bed and lifts the other knee of the bed supporting the weight on his foot holds the woman while he thrusts her.
13. Sultan – This position can be uncomfortable. The Man lies back. The woman is at his base and holds his legs in her arms. The man bends his penis forward to insert it into the woman…ouch.
14. Antelope – This starts out like “feeding the peacock” and then transitions into “The wheel”
15. Rajasthan – The man sits on the edge of the bed with his legs hanging off. The woman sits on his lap facing him with one leg over his shoulder.
16. The Abduction – The man picks up a woman off a bench and moves into the “feeding the peacock” position holding her up. The final stage is the man lowering her onto a pile of cushions and thrusts into her while she hooks her legs around him clenching him tightly.
17. Starflower – The man and woman lie back facing each other. They cross their legs over themselves over each other diagonally intertwined. This is one of the most passionate positions ever.
18. The Horse – This position is executed the same as the cow however the mans legs are together to one side and he sits on his side as he thrusts into the woman from behind.
19. Eternity – The woman lays on her side with her legs together and her knees bent. The man comes from behind and penetrates her as he leans over her and the lovers kiss.
20. Frenzy – First this position is executed like the “Rajasthan”. The man then raises his pelvis lifting his partner up while he thrusts into her. Then he sits back down, crosses his leg over and pulls his partener close as in the “Chariot”
21. Jacaranda – Executed the same as the sultan but the woman leans forward more horizontally over the man making it easier for his penetration.
22. Riding the Elephant – Starts off like the “Cocoon” but instead of raising her up (transitioning into “the butterfly”) the woman holds her man tighter thus making it harder for him to move….this position requires the woman to execute the position on her own.
23. The Path of Life – Starts off with the woman lying her back and the man is next to her on his side penetrating her from behind. Then she rolls onto her side and finally rolls back on to her back and the man completes the position.
24. Ganges – Like the Shoal of Fish he picks up the woman by the waist and penetrates her while she supports herself on the floor with her hands (instead of resting on the bench like in the Shoal of Fish). Then woman then lowers herself and rests her neck (with her head tilted to the side) on the floor/cushions. This can be a dangerous position for the woman.
The Bodies Erogenous Zones
Amoral and materialistic as this world is and was, it can also reach a spiritual dimension, and sex was, in the eastern world, the gateway to achieving it. Through the touch, taste, smell and sound of the body this gateway was allowed to be opened and explored. The bodies erogenous zones are the keys to this gateway. The positions of the KamaSutra are all depicted and based around the basic stimulation of the bodies erogenous zones. It should be noted that these zones are not like the nipples, the clitoris or the head of the penis. These zones as suggested stimulate the brain to open the gateway to spiritual and heavenly sexual fantasies. The zones are as follows:
The Head – the closest part of the body to heaven. It is believed how you hold our head up shows how you feel about yourself in relation to heaven. Women of the East, the way they carry jars on their heads, walk with grace and dignity. Hair, which springs from the head, is believed to be the dwelling place of the soul. Tantric sages believed that women could activate forces of creation and destruction by binding and unbinding their hair. The Indian culture believes that Shiva’s long hair represents sexual energy which is why men keep their hair long and wear it in a turban, to preserve its vital essences.
The Eyes – Your eyes are worlds of feeling distilled into colour and light. They bring messages direct from your soul, unedited by thought processes, faster, deeper, truer, more subtle and fleeting than words. It is said that the brain is the body’s most important sex organ. It gives and receives messages of desire through the eyes.
The Ears – Our ears provide us with the longest living of all our senses. The inner ear is developed within seven days of conception, and when we die, before death when all body senses are gone the ears can still hear the voices of our loved one. Listening to the music of nature brings peace, power and a sense of oneness with the universe.
The Nose – Breath is the symbol of life; amongst its blessings are inspiration and understanding. The nose through which we breathe is associated with intuition. Scents are also the food of memory, bringing back past scenes and sensations with a wave or jolt of emotion.
The Mouth – Flavours are elusive and impossible to define. We are known to the basic tastes of sour, sweet, salty and bitter however it is believed by the ancient Indians that sensual pleasures of eating and drinking are heightened when they are a prelude to love. The lovers of ancient India perfumed their breath with scented seeds and feasted on lucious fruit between sex sessions as a source of refreshment.
The Arms and Hands – It is said by the Indians that the hands are eloquent in the language of love. They believe that the hands are used to bless and curse and the laying on of hands affects the transfer of energy. Arms stand for strength, power, help and protection. We use our hands in dance and worship, and to groom, comfort and caress our own bodies as well as to give love.
The Breasts – Breasts stand for comfort, compassion, security and plenty, intimacy and protection as well as being powerful sexual symbols. Hindus believe that the touch of a woman’s breast arouses a special degree of tenderness branching from her motherly instinct to protect her young, so too do we want to be comforted in her breast.
The Belly – In the east the smoothly rounded belly of a woman is one of her most sensual attributes. The belly is the outward manifestation of the womb and stands for fertility. The touch of a woman’s belly promotes once again comfort and protection for her loved ones.
The Genitals – The tantric sages of ancient India worshipped the goddess Kali, because to them she symbolized the female sex organs, the fount of all life and the most sacred pleasure of living. The vagina in ancient times was symbolised by the “yoni” and the penis was symbolised by the “lingam”. The yoni is the symbol of a gateway to secret knowledge and buried treasure of ecstasy. It swallows the lingam and brings forth life.
The Legs and Feet – Down the ages women have emphasized their feminine walk. She wore high heels making walking difficult in order to tighten her calves giving her legs a more curvaceous look. Legs and feet to this day offer a sexual pleasure to lovers. A foot massage can bring relief and revitalization to the whole body.
Kinds of Union According to Dimensions
Unions between man and woman are dived into Equal and Unequal. There are three equal unions between persons of corresponding dimensions, and there are six unequal unions, when the dimensions do not correspond, or nine in all. Man is divided into three classes being the hare man, the bull man, and the horse man, according to the size of his lingam. Woman also, according to the depth of her yoni, is either a female deer, a mare, or a female elephant.
EQUAL
MEN:WOMEN,
Hare:Deer, Bull:Mare, Horse:Elephant
UNEQUAL
MEN:WOMEN,
Hare:Mare, Hare:Elephant, Bull:Deer, Bull:Elephant, Horse:Deer, Horse:Mare
Kissing
The KamaSutra recommends kissing the following body parts: the forehead, eyes, cheeks, throat, breasts, lips and the inside of the mouth. Intense passion may inflame the lover to move on to the joints of the thighs, the arms and the navel. Vatsyayana devised a language of kissing. He stated: “To kindle love, kiss your beloved while he is asleep. To show you are attracted to someone, kiss a child sitting on your lap in his presence…” For a man to show his intention he can kiss one of her fingers if she is standing or kiss one of her toes if sitting.
Love and Money
In terms of the relationship of love between man and woman and money, the hindus believe that a courtesan should always keep her emotions in check, remembering that her independence is her livelihood. If she does happen to fall in love, she shouldn’t let it get the better of her. On the other hand, the courtesan should always act as though she is in love with her man even when she despises him, because this is the way to gain his confidence. Vatsyayana advises on 27 ways a woman can persuade a man to part with cash and/or jewels, some of which include rushing to her lover weeping and wailing or approaching in subtle tears.
The Harem
The women of the harem must share one man. Men in ancient India often used aphrodisiacs to pleasure as many women as he could however even this would not enable him to please all his women. The women would often pleasure themselves and/or each other and sometimes they would enjoy oral sex from the men who guarded them (eunuchs). The best treat however was to smuggle a man into the royal apartments dressed as a woman (Have you seen Don Juan De Marco with Johnny Depp?)
The Kama Shastra
Part of the KamaSutra is the Kama Shastra. It too contains 64 arts…that in the ancient world the hindus believed every woman should learn. Sort of like a finishing school for upper class wives. The Kama Shastra includes the arts of singing, dancing and drawing, cooking, perfumery, jewellery, tattooing, reading, composing poems, languages and hairdressing just to name a few. There are many many more.
Magic Potions
The men and women of ancient India had access to a wide variety of potions, charms and philtres to help them in their amorous adventures. If a couples genitals were ill-matched in size, the man could enlarge his lingam and the women could make her yoni smaller and enlarge her breast by use of these “Magic Potions”. Similarly, beauty can also be manipulated as well as the sexual vigour of man and woman, delaying or rushing orgasm, conception or contraception and regulation of menstrual cycles.
Sex Aids
Dildoes were common sex aids in ancient India. They were often fashioned in the form of a sheath to be worn over the lingam and increase its size. Also when the women of a harem have to share one man they often become bored and want satisfaction so they commonly dressed as men and used a bulbous root as a dildo to find their own ways to have fun.
Polygamy
Vatsyayana declared that a man is justified in taking another wife when his first wife is ill-tempered, bears no children, bears only daughters, or merely if he has a roving eye. A woman must work very hard to be his favourite wife. A wife who is dislike by her husband and his other wives is in an unenviable position. Her route to favour lies with befriending the favourite wife.
The Elephant Woman
An energetic female lover is called an elephant woman. When a man has tired himself out with lovemaking she encourages him to lie back so she can take a more vigorous role. She then proceeds to carry out any of the acts performed by man.
Sex and Violence
Vatsyayana believed that sex could be compared to a quarrel and he saw no difference between sexual passion and violence. It is said that physical abuse was the norm for the ancient hindus. Men and women sometimes wore their bruises with pride, as sexual trophies.
Padma, the “Venus” of India
Hindu writers have written about the perfect woman, the goddess personified. She was Padma, meaning Lotus, the symbol of the yoni. She was heavily built and voluptuous with fine textured skin and a serene face. Her main virtues were loyalty, obedience, courtesy and respectfulness towards her husband. Women were expected to model her in their daily rituals.
