You enter a set poorly and get AWOG'd?

I was at a club last night and had a group of girls with me. We were all dancing, having a few drinks, and just generally having a good time. I honestly wasn't there to pick up, I was just there to have a good time. So, I'm tired from dancing and go outside to get some air. There's a six set hanging out by the back gate and talking. Again, I'm not there to run game, I'm there for some air. So I don't approach and just hang out over in the corner away from all the smoke.

However, this HB8 invites me into the set showing IOIs asking me who I am, what I'm doing, etc. So after staying over in the corner for a bit, I approach the group, figure I'll run some DHV and figure out if I have a potential target (first mistake, always chose the target ahead of time). Then immediately, the same girl that invited me into the set starts to AMOG me. I've never been AMOG'd by a girl before, so it was a little weird. So I start busting her balls, throwing out some neg's at her and to her friends. Things like, "Nice nails, are they real?" and "I think my grandma has those earrings... they are her favorites!" and "Is she always this pushy?" when she was interupting my conversation. But no matter what I did, she still had clear control of the group. Basically, she kept sending out the insults and playing the game better than I was.... She compared me to the local skeevy guy that walked around back and forth all night just looking out of place, or whenever I'd throw a jab her way she'd come back with something like "Oh, I like him, he's cute" obviously undercutting me. What's funny is she was doing the same thing to me that I would have done to someone coming into my 3 set that night. I was actually half laughing the entire time she was doing it, I just couldn't come up with a way to counter.

So after a few minutes of a failed open, I just left and said I had to get back inside to my friends. The bad part is that I know from that one interaction, I lost any and all potential with that group. So any suggestions on how to handle an AWOG? lol

hmm, this happened to me once.. but she soon found out who was better at dishing shit out, and improving on the spot..

You have to be quick, pounce on insecurities, and think about ANYTHING that she might respond with..

Since i do Comedy, its pretty easy for me, but its an art ive been perfecting for years.. Look up HECKLER on youtube, and see how some comedians handle their hecklers.. Joe ROgan is pretty good at handling it.

Too bad he sucks at comedy.

I'm fairly new to the community of pick up, but one thing i'm sh*t hot on is put downs.

As a comedian I have to plan for sitiutatons like this and store them for later. More than often if I can't think on my feet quick enough I die... go home, think of the perfect answer and commit it to memory.

For AWOGs or Den Mothers or whatever you want to call them I tend to go down the age route.

"I like you, these girls must like having you around, I wish my mum was cool enough to come to bars with me!"

and go straight into something else which engages with another member of the group. If she tries to interrupt. I reply with something like "You're not my real mum, you can't make me clean my room"

It usually gets a reaction. It might sound cruel, but if she's as bad as you say then she'll be able to take it without bursting into tears.

This is taken straight from a gig I did where this woman would not shut up in the front row.

Thanks for the tips guys... Limiter, I think she was actually younger than most of the girls in the group, but I probably could have changed the line a bit if I would have thought of it, maybe something like "Oh, thanks. I'm glad you think I'm cute! You sound just like my little sister... She has that same obnoxious tone when she thinks she's better than everyone else." Bottom line I guess is that I need to be better prepared. Don't open a set unless it's on my terms and just let the group come to me if they want to open me. At least until I can fight for my life as a stand up comic. :-)

Sounds a bit harsh that this girl invited you into the group and then AWOG'd you. Do you think they were just being evil and wanted to get some guy to make feel small in order to make themselves feel better at your expence? Maybe you weren't performing as well as you weren't in the mindset of gaming?
Concentrate on negs dude and improve your skills on keeping the frame. If this ever happens again, be prepared! Give them a lashing they wont soon forget!

Yeah it sucks when theres a bitchy leader. Ur first mistake was giving into her calls. Get her to come to you or dont waste your time. Shes an 8. That sounds high but remember its a 6-10 rating so shes mid-line and probably bitter.

Shes gonna be more comfortable putting u down for some quick self esteem than risk losing esteem (especially infront of her friends) from some guy that if hes groomed right and with a lil peacocking, probably is out of her league.

I Know she seems bitchy but its armor. Build a kind of quick friendship, share simmilarities. Think of it like building a relationship with ur annoying boss from work.

Just flinging shit at each other shows u both need to work on ur self esteem.

BEST OF ALL, a girl can be one over if her friends approve of u first. since shes the leader, her opinion probably means alot. When u and the 'AWOG' become good buddies, she wont cock block u when u target the brunette10 next to her, and the b10 wont brush you off cos in winning over her friend u show shit loads of value, esp cos u won over her MOST IMPORTANT friend... oooh big man!... *sorry if that came off gay but you get what i mean*

Most important dont let urself become comfortable chasing 8s... i dont wanna say shes low, its not right, she could be nice. BUT you have to stick to a standard or your skills wont work for 10 and 9. after years of 8s youll come across a 10 and blow ur shot.

so to reiterate:
- 8s use friendly approach,
- 9s & 10s go with soft negs but tease them.
- Dont get dragged into a set, at the very least, call them to you. its like changing venues and it makes it ur set.
- winning leaders is a good DHV.

Limiter has a good comeback, but this is to offend, cos he didnt like 'some woman that wouldnt shut it' making comments in his show. Standup is an audience, its one way. Sure they ask questions but its not really about the individual. Your not trying to make this girl quiet (which she'll never do in front of her friends anyway) your trying to be friendly and win her. You dont want to hook up with her, so its cool to become friends. Plus she has heaps of influence over girls so she could really have a lot of hotties to connect with...

Good on u for goin with hard negs tho. It wont give u a good outcome for the set, but at least if u ever need some hard negs, u gave it thought.

Save the negs for the overly-confident HB10's tho.

Sugaraddict, thanks dude. That makes the most sense yet. You're especially right since I forgot that you're only supposed to neg the target. I was throwing insults back and forth which just made me lose value in the set overall (aka, at best I was an asshole and at worst a loser).

Also, I recognize I should have just stayed where I was and lured the set to me. Essentially, I know I backassed my way into this set and screwed it all up. I just didn't know if there was a way to recover after I had done that. Sounds like this would have been the best solution, especially considering the 8 was not my target (I didn't even have a target).

One of the things I need to remember is that social proof is a big part of the game. And that means, you can't piss off a girl. You can playfully neg, but you can't piss her off (unless she's a solid 10, which I don't believe many of those exist). That just kills the entire vibe. I don't think I did that here, and she seemed to be enjoying that fact that I was *trying* to go toe to toe with her. I've always done ok for myself as an AFC. I need to remember that SOME of what I used to do is still ok -- cuz it works. I've always been good at befriending groups of people and interacting with them for example. It's building attraction and approaching that I've had the biggest issues with in the field.

Yeah man its good ur looking back at this stuff.

Another thing i forgot to mention: By the time u open, you should have a target. choose the best girl in the set for some target practice.

Yeah when they enjoy going toe to toe they get motivated n u get depressed..

makes u look like a chump

sweet thing about the game is drop the set n wat happened, and after ejecting, let it roll off ur back and find those winglets for some quick new set injection.

Good game tho.
