strong coffee, whey+glucose shake, some great workout music, and watching a rocky training medley on youtube first would probably help more.
Might also try a basic EAC stack... (ephedra and caffeine)... along with the protein... and definitely the rocky fanfare...

In a double blind placebo controlled study from the University of Georgia, caffeine ingestion(300mg) reduced intensity of post workout muscle soreness by 50% allowing people to train again sooner(over the counter NSAIDS only reduced muscle soreness by 30%!). Caffeine also has mountains of scientific studies showing increase in alertness, focus, and sense of well being, resulting in greater intensity in the gym and reduced training fatigue. Pre workout drinks are not a placebo effect! Arginine supplements are only worth the money to those interested in athletic performance, its not the best use of money if you just want to look sexy. Pre workout BCAA are where its at for those with limited budget going for the best results in looking swole. During a workout BCAA are burned by muscles in large amounts, not to mention being used to repair muscle tissue and build it back bigger and stronger. BCAA reduces fatigue and recovery time, as adequate amounts of BCAA activate anabolic signaling pathways and blunt catabolism. Make sure your pre workout drink includes copious amounts of BCAA! I choose NO Shotgun(v.3) if you can find it! If you cant afford NO SHOTGUN then take caffeine pills and BCAA pills both of which are dirt cheap. Also you need a potent antioxidant like green tea or high ORAC superfruits as workouts create massive amounts of oxidative free radical damage which can be avoided with proper antioxidant dosing allowing 30% or more strength the next day compared to groups in the study who did not receive pre workout antioxidants.

If you want to go with something for a pre work out drink take a half of scoop of vanilla soy protein and a half a scoop of vanilla whey and mix it with orange juice. You can take some caffeine to give u the energy boost. Thats what i take and it seems to work great for me.
