I know Chicago isn't a t shirt and flip flops city, and they are more style conscious as far as nightlife goes, unless you're at one of the many bars pounding down beer and shots. TV/film production and editing, dressing comfortable is usually more important than dressing to impress, depending on what you're doing. Corporate videos, you're definitely dressing up. Independent arthouse films, whatever looks the cleanest.

As far as what looks or styles to go with, even if you think it's not your everyday look or style, try it out anyway. You just want to go with what type of activities you want to be the center of attention in..

I think they may be referring to Alan Flusser. He is a clothing designer with several books out.

My two bob's worth...

On the issue of clothes, go shopping with women who have style sense and TAKE THEIR ADVICE. Women love dressing a man, and if you want to be attracted to women, what better advice could you get? You mention that you have developed friendships with a lot of women - good, pick out the most stylish and ask them to come with you shopping. I abrogated most of my clothing decision making long ago to a couple of women I know have good taste. They know what they're talking about, I don't. I always get compliments about my dress sense.

With regard to your problem of forming friendships but not relationships, you are spending too long in comfort (but I guess you figured that out already). I have had this problem too in the past, and it was coming to this community that helped me fix it. Comfort is vital - that is where the game is won or lost - but you must ESCALATE through comfort. I'm guessing you are getting too comfortable in comfort (pardon the pun). Since you seem to have little trouble getting that far, really concentrate the escalation phasing - the kino, hook/release, becoming more and more intimate and "sexual". You must be prepared to move on once you feel the game is not on. Keep all women as friends, of course, but don't waste your valuable gaming time on being the perennial agony aunt. Move on and up.

You have done a great job with yourself - I feel you have only small mountains to climb.

In the second post, I recommended Alan Flusser's books:

Reading Magic Bullets is an excellent start, and I think it crosses over many age groups.

There's a lot of information here, so take it a piece at a time!

As for wardrobe, I've used Alan Flusser's Clothes and the Man as a basic guide to looking good. You might browse through it and the books near it in the book store to get an idea of what will work best for you.

As for inner game, you'll get plenty of suggestions, but the one book that had the single greatest impact on me was Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. If I had to pick just one book that is "high leverage," that would be it.

I'll be interested to see what others suggest. You can also check out the Endorsed Products and Other Products sections of this Forum for more ideas.

Electric -

Welcome fellow Chicagoan.

Alan Flusser has a few books. "Clothes and the Man" and "Style and the Man" are good. His book "Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion" is even better though. It's huge, has tons of pictures, and covers the same information as the other two books.

I would also recommend "Work Clothes" (Amazon.com: Work Clothes (Chic Simple): Casual Dress for Serious Work (Chic Simple Guides): Kim Johnson Gross, Jeff Stone: Books) because it has a lot of pictures of different outfits put together so you can kind of see what goes together and how. Pretty good, and you can get it used for less than $1 on Amazon.
