Big stuff. This is a huge thread on a lot of levels, and it should be moved into Best Of because I believe it will do two things: 1. It will raise awareness. You are always impacted by the running commentary in your head, but many guys don't notice it. It's like the ventilation system at work that you don't "hear" until you focus on it. Harmful selves are operating within more guys than realize it, and this post can help them notice that. 2. It will clear obstacles. I think this is especially true if you can provide some examples of how you or others you know were able to reframe stories from passive into active, from weak into strong, from power residing outside of you to power residing inside of you.
I sat in on an Islamic "discourse" once where the guru said, "When a dog bites you, it's bad enough. Each time you re-tell the story, it's like the dog is biting you all over again."
Whenever I catch myself re-telling a sad story in my mind, I say, "Stop! The dog is biting you again!" and usually chuckle as I move past the story.
This isn't the same as what Fader is describing -- he's talking about turning the story on its head to restore to you the power, energy, intelligence, and abundance that you truly possess. But it's another facet of the process.
The implications for this and pick-up (and more importantly, life) are huge. That's because as you change who you are by correcting your stories, you change the storyteller who writes your new stories, too.
Let's stay on the case. |
