IOIs - The Almighty Signposts?

I was at a friend's house, doing some reading for our philosophy class and drinking wine, and I thought I was getting some decent IOIs from her; however, this specific case isn't relevant to what I'm wondering. It just prompted the question:


"Are IOIs almighty signposts?"


It seems like in the social circle, where you already have a strong rapport with girl friends, IOIs might not be as big of a deal as coming from someone you only just met. Should the proper view be "An IOI is an IOI, get three and GO"?

I'm not particularly interesting in gaming my social circle for the hell of it. Friends before pickups, but should the occasion arise that I find myself unusually attracted to a friend and I think I'm getting IOIs, how much salt should that observation come with in light of the context?

P.S. I can put up a more detailed recount of what I thought were IOIs and the specific "salt" I was taking with them, if anyone cares to analyze, but I'm interested in the bigger question.

Lets hear the details

You gotta gauge what are actual IOI's. A girl you just met fondling your hair may be IOI whilst a friend doing the same thing might not be one.

Often, it'll be easier to look for that ONE big sign rather than looking for three smaller ones.

That being said,
I find that I get much farther assuming IOI's than wasting my time looking for them.
