How Do I Filter Bad Members/Advice on this Forum?

Is there a way to view a member's rating? what i mean is, when i post a thread, MANY (yes, MANY) members reply with bad advice. they do this becuz they think they know more than anyone else (even more than the masters), when in reality, they dont. they do it with ego, not knowledge. there are even a few moderators here (i wont name names) who come off full of ego too.

there are ppl here who really need help. we really dont need someone (both user and moderator) full of ego to play god. sometimes i come here with a feeling of dread becuz i feel i'll get bad advice from an unsuspecting member and use it, not knowing the consequences.

i'd appreciate it if anyone can show me how to view someone's rating. so that i can check their credibility without having to accept creepiness, or false info, or ego... false advice is very damaging. thanks.

There used to be a rep system in place some years back but that didn't help at all as some people were just rep whores and other posters who gave very good and true advice but didn't post a lot who wasn't being listened to just because their rep was lower then the whores.
Your going to have to take or leave each posters advice as it comes sometimes it'll be right other times wrong no one is perfect.

And remember, if all else fails in set just try this, works everytime.

    There are no ratings.

You can't control other posters' behavior. If you think someone is being unproductive, you can ignore them. If they are breaking forum rules (flaming) you can notify a Moderator.

yeah i guess... its just really fucked up getting bad advice from the wrong people on here. especially when you need good advice in the 1st place. i think if the advice sounds good, it must be good. but sometimes, that line of thinking isnt 100% perfect.

You know, its funny what you said.. but, where in my question did i ask on how to control other's behaviors? and where in my question did i mention about people breaking forum rules? i never asked those questions. i asked if there was a rating system, thats all.

and i see youre a mod.,, answer me one question.. can a mod help others with advice? or is it their sole job to reprimand them if they break forum rules? i ask this cuz the attitudes i see from mods here is very strict. its like theyre not humane towards others.. they act like cops more than anything.

tedalin - you might not have asked something directly, but you also may have hinted on and/or implied something else indirectly which needed a clearer response and/or an elaboration from a more knowledgeable and authoritative user (this is where mods come into play, and explain everything to you... from the the mindset of people to the rules of this forum and how advice-giving works here).

When members act bratty or irrational, it is the moderators' jobs to align their behaviors in accordance to the rules, so at times it may come off as "policing" or "strict/inhumane" - but after all, their sole job on here is to maintain peace and order. Same analogy applies to real life, and the ones who violate rules in our daily waking world... they too do not like cops who police them and put them back in line with society's regulations.

tedalin, I have followed your latest thread and have noticed that you have an issue with understanding that other members here only want to help you, and when they see you speak of bad things - they tell you that you shouldn't be saying them. Simple. And in response to them looking out for you - your obligation/duty should be as simple as saying "I'm sorry, I will not say/do that again"... and move on.

Well, no. You asked if there was a ratings system and then complained at length about the quality of some of the advice you got. My intention was to clarify that there's nothing to be done about that unless rules are being broken, so you're SOL unless you can try to ignore members you don't like.

For example, I didn't answer your question the way you wanted it answered. You can either ignore that or complain about it. Ignoring it may be more productive.

Yes, Mods can help others. We also enforce forum rules. In your case you made multiple misogynistic statements and have flamed other members. We don't allow either.

    Try to tone it down.

We're actually looking for a good system that is compatible with vbulletin that would allow threads and/or users to be rated in a way that is easy, works well, doesn't lend itself to abuse, etc. Bonus points if it is easily compatible with social media stuff like digg or facebook or whatever. There are some awesome threads that no one reads because they've been buried.

Any techies with imagination that want to dig into this project for TAF, email me. We always reward good work.
